Welcome to the Civic Leadership Academy!
Civic involvement has continued to drop across the United States in the last 50 years, “brain drain” is removing talent from rural areas, and Texas Tech graduates are seeking a sense of purpose and direction for their careers. The purpose of the Civic Leadership Academy is to help college students from the Lubbock region realize their potential to enact change and impact their communities, beginning with themselves. The program aims to develop students’ understanding of their leadership potential and demonstrate the merits of civic leadership through community engagement and interaction with entrepreneurship, nonprofits, government, agriculture, community development, and community-driven leaders and businesses. These opportunities are from a grant provided by the Helen Jones Foundation.
The CLA will interact with leadership development activities and community partners over the year. Follow our member blogs to learn more about the experiences and the programming that happens while we learn more about being a civic leader and engaging in our communities for the greater good.
